Fear Impacts Movement at the Chronic and Subacute Stages of Back Pain

In two studies, participants with chronic low back pain and those recently recovered from a pain episode completed a reaching movement task. In both groups, individuals high in pain-related fear endorsed higher predicted and experienced pain and harm ratings. Implications for pain maintenance/ recurrence and measurement issues are discussed.
