Abstract
Undergraduates learned about anesthesia machine function via either a "transparent reality" (TR) simulation that made internal gas flows and dynamics visible, or an opaque simulation. TR significantly improved learning of component function (p = .004)and system dynamics (p = .013). TR simulations may enable a more effective “mental model” of complex systems.
