Abstract
Economic theories assume that all decisions are based on expected utilities. Utilities, however, are influenced by multiple factors, such as the expected amount and timing of reward. In a social setting, the outcome of one’s decision is also affected by the decisions of other individuals. Recently, studies of decision making in non-human primates have begun providing crucial insights into how such diverse information is integrated in the brain to optimize the animal’s decision-making strategies. I will focus on the role of prefrontal cortex in decision making during a competitive game and inter-temporal choice.
