Poor Performance on the Colorado Student Assessment Program Is Highly Correlated with Receiving Free or Reduced Lunch: Food for Thought

Abstract
Colorado middle schools were analyzed to determine the relationships between academic performance and percentages of students receiving free lunches. A significant positive Pearson’s correlation was found between receiving free lunches and poor academic performance. Possible reasons such as socio-economic factors, psychological factors, and nutritional factors are discussed.
