An Integrative Evolutionary Perspective on Sex Differences in Mortality

Abstract
Sex differences shaped by sexual selection interact with culture and environment to yield predictable mortality patterns across the lifespan. Sex differences in mortality rates were highest in young adulthood; were higher for external causes, low SES groups, the unmarried; and were magnified during the Eastern European transition to market economies.
