Abstract:
Social identity structure was manipulated in a group decision-making paradigm to examine its effects on outgroup discrimination. Participants exhibited more outgroup discrimination in preference for group leaders and group composition if induced to think of their ingroup as only the intersection of their multiple identities rather than the union of their identities.
