Abstract:
Many addictive drugs share the ability to produce very long-lasting neuroadaptations in neural systems involved in drug reward, and adaptations render susceptible individuals hypersensitive (sensitized) to the psychomotor-activating and -rewarding effects of drugs. The role of these drug-induced neuroadaptations in the transition to addiction will be discussed.
