Harnessing the Power of Wikipedia for Scientific Psychology: A Call to Action
Wikipedia is the Encyclopedia that Anybody Can Edit. But Have You?
Wikipedia is the most commonly used general reference source on the Internet, but how much do you know about Psychology Articles on Wikipedia?
| 1. Guess how many articles are associated with the Project on Psychology at Wikipedia? | |
| 2. What percentage of those have been reviewed? | |
| 3. What percentage have been assessed as good articles? | |
| 4. What percentage have even been featured on Wikipedia? | |
| 5. What is the average number of times people have visited the low quality articles in the past six months? |
| Question | Your Response | Wikipedia Numbers |
|---|---|---|
| Number of Psychology articles | 5500 | |
| Percentage of reviewed articles | 935 (30%) | |
| Good articles | 19 (2%) | |
| Featured articles | 9 (1%) | |
| Average number of views of low quality articles in past 6 months | more than 64000 |
There are about 5500 articles associated with the Project on Psychology at Wikipedia. Of those, only 30% have even been assessed through Wikipedia’s peer assessment. Of the roughly 935 articles that have an assessment of medium or higher importance, only 2% are above "B" level, only 9 have ever been featured, and only another 9 have "Good Article" status. We’ve got to improve this.
