RiSE-UP
What Is RiSE-UP?
RiSE-UP (Research on Socially and Economically Underrepresented Populations) is a committee that works to enhance awareness of the need for research by and/or about underrepresented populations.
In keeping with the mission of RiSE-UP, members work to assist, coordinate, advocate, and recommend programs, policies, and research on issues related to underrepresented populations. RiSE-UP members are plugged into a network of like-minded student scholars, and have the opportunity to dialogue with peers about research and issues related to underrepresented populations. Throughout the year, RiSE-UP members also participate in creating resource guides of funding organizations and advocacy groups that support the type of research represented by RiSE-UP. These resource guides will be made available to the APS community upon completion. Last, new special projects may occur throughout the year depending on member interest and suggestion.
Seven committees comprise RiSE-UP, and students are allowed to select which committee(s) they would like to join when they first become members:
- Aging
- Individuals with Disabilities
- Ethnic Minorities
- Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender Individuals
- Weight Issues
- Women’s Issues
- Working Class Individuals
