APSSC Executive Board

APS Student Caucus

The APS Student Caucus is a representative body of the student affiliates of the Association for Psychological Science.

Student Affiliates,

On behalf of the 08-09 APSSC Executive Board members, welcome to the Association for Psychological Science Student Caucus (APSSC) website! I am writing to not only say how glad we are to have you as a member but also to remind you of the benefits of being APS student affiliate. In addition to receiving the benefits extended to all APS members (e.g., journal subscriptions, discounted convention registration, etc.), student affiliates are eligible to participate in the many programs organized by the APSSC. These programs provide students with the opportunity to gain experience in areas important to professional development (e.g., reviewing research, presenting a talk at the APS convention, etc.) and to obtain the resources they need to succeed (e.g., funding, information, etc.). The APSSC also organizes numerous events at the APS annual convention that are geared towards student affiliates, including symposia that highlight student research, panel discussions that feature top researchers in the field, and social gatherings that facilitate networking. Information on various programs and convention events organized by the APSSC are available on this site. Please take a moment to look over the opportunities available to you. For more information, feel free to email the board member responsible for coordinating the program / event or Also, both the APSSC monthly E-Newsletter and the Student Notebook section of The Observer are great places to look for announcements about upcoming events and program deadlines. We hope you will take advantage of all the APSSC has to offer and will join us at the 2009 Convention in San Francisco.

Kelli Vaughn-Blount
APS 2008-2009 Student Caucus President

RiSE-UP: (Research on Socially and Economically Underrepresented Populations) is a committee that works to enhance awareness of the need for research by and/or about underrepresented populations.

Campus Representatives: In an effort to increase communication with student affiliates and to "put a face" on the APSSC, we want to create a network of liaisons at as many colleges and universities as possible - people to serve as official representatives of the APSSC.

Mentorship: The APS Mentorship Program was designed to help undergraduate students navigate their current research plans and future career goals in the field of psychology. To this end, the program attempts to pair each interested undergraduate with a graduate student who serves as a peer mentor.
