NSF Small Grants for Exploratory Research on 9/11
The National Science Foundation's Social, Behavioral, and
Economic Sciences Directorate was heavily involved in research that examined the trauma
and fear caused by the 9/11 terrorist attacks. By utilizing a funding mechanism known as
SGER, NSF was able to quickly distribute funding to scientists who wished to examine
this phenomenon. Five of the seven recipients in the social psychology arena were APS members.
