Current Funding Opportunities
The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) is Funding Young Scientists
The Biobehavioral Research Awards for Innovative New Scientists (BRAINS) is intended to support the research and research career development of outstanding scientists who are in the early, formative stages of their careers and who plan to make a long term career commitment to research in specific mission areas of the NIMH. This award seeks to assist these individuals in launching an innovative clinical, translational, or basic research program that holds the potential to profoundly transform the understanding, diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of mental disorders, paving the way for a cure. Each year the BRAINS program will focus on a specific area of research and research career development need. In this inaugural year the focus of the BRAINS program is neurodevelopment. Letters of intent are due January 5, 2009, and applications are due February 3, 2009. Click here to link to the announcement.
The School of Engineering Education (ENE) within the College of Engineering at Purdue University and the Center for the Advancement of Scholarship on Engineering Education (CASEE) of the National Academy of Engineering
are jointly sponsoring Engineering Education Leadership and Policy (E2-LEAP) Fellowships. E2-LEAP Fellowships seek to deepen and extend research on engineering education leadership and policy, to raise their visibility, and to heighten the awareness of the community about their importance. The fellowships are open to those with earned doctorates in any field of engineering, the social sciences, or education who have an understanding of the national and international challenges in engineering education as well as the policy frameworks of governmental and non-governmental organizations that may serve to either exacerbate or mitigate these challenges. Research questions are expected to address the interplay between policy frameworks and the structure or outcomes of engineering education. Submit your application as soon as possible. Translating Basic Behavioral and Social Science Discoveries into Interventions to Reduce Obesity: Centers for Behavioral Intervention Development (NIH)
This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) (RFA-HL-08-013) is being issued by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), with participation from the National Cancer Institute, the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), and the Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research (OBSSR). This FOA solicits cooperative agreement (U01) applications from institutions/organizations that propose to translate findings from basic research on human behavior into more effective clinical, community, and population interventions to reduce obesity and improve obesity-related behaviors. This FOA will support Centers for Behavioral Intervention Development (CBIDs) in which interdisciplinary teams of basic and applied behavioral and social science researchers develop and refine novel interventions based on basic research findings to reduce obesity and alter obesity-related health behaviors (e.g., diet, physical activity). Letters of intent due December 16, 2008, and full proposals due January 13, 2009. See the full proposal at: http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/rfa-files/RFA-HL-08-013.html
